OPTIONAL TOURS
 

Optional tours are avalable to delegates and accompanying persons as described below. 

TOUR #1:

CITY TOUR (3-4 HOURS LONG, US$ 40)

Departure from Tropical Hotel with an 18 Km of sightseeing through the Ponta Negra Road, passing through typical and histirical neighborhoods. Visit to the famous Teatro Amazonas (Opera House), inaugurated in 1896, and one of the main turistic sites and landmarks from Manaus. It is an the most important architectonic building from the prosperous rubber period and main artistic cultural patrimony of the Amazonas State. It works regularly as an opera house, presenting regional, national and international events.
next a visit to the Rio Negro Palace, that 1917 was used as the residence of a very rich rubber business man, and thereafter it was the Govern of Amazonas State Office until 1996. Nowadays, it contemplates exhibits and chamber shows.Visit to the `Mercado Municipal'. The Buzzing Municipal Market Adolpho Lisboa, was built in front of the Negro River, in art nouveau style and inaugurated on 1882. Its architecture is compared to the extinct Les Hales Market, from Paris. It works until nowadays as a business center of regional products. Retum to Tropical Hotel. Several departure times per day.

TOUR #2:

THE SURVIVAL TOUR (US$ 65)

Activities: Jungle tour, canoe ride and lunch.
Number of participants: minimum of 4 persons.

Departure 9 am from the Tropical Hotel pier towards the Tarumã Region. A 2-hour jungle tour is scheduled where different kind of forest vegetation will be observed. The identification of fruit tress and of water sources will be taught as well as the construction of small traps. Lunch will take place around 1:30 pm. After lunch, a visit to a Saterê-Mauê tribe will be made in order to get acquainted with its tradition of living standards. The visitor will be toasted with a typical drink known as "Tarubá". (aboriginal typical cassava drink). By 4:00 pm departure back to Manaus.

TOUR #3:

VISIT TO PRESIDENT FIGUEIREDO'S WATER FALLS (9 HOURS LONG, US$ 70)

Departure from Tropical Hotel at 9 am towards the city of Presidente Figueiredo, 107 Km from Manaus. There you will visit the ecological reserves of Iracema and Santuário, which posseses one of the largest arrays of waterfalls in earth. It is a place where forest and waterfalls share a bit of nature harmony allied to the exuberance of the rain forest fauna and flora. The area lives from mineral extraction, agriculture and tourism. It holds ecological reserves, aboriginal areas (Waimiri Atroari), small mining farm, Balbina hydroelectric dam (70 km far from Pres. Figueiredo City), caves, grottos, lakes, rivers, small creeks (igaparés) and many waterfalls and rapids. return to Tropical Hotel bt 6 pm.

TOUR #4:

SPECIAL CRUISE TO THE ARCHIPELAGO OF ANAVILHANAS (8 HOURS LONG, US$ 140)

Departure from the Tropical Hotel pier by 9 am following up stream in the Negro river, with a visit to the Jungle Hotel Ariau Tower. Then you pass through the first island of the Anavilhanas archipelago and have an idea of the area and its biodiversity. Visit to other ilands from a total of 400. Lunch will be served at the jungle Hotel Palace and thereafter you will visit an Amazon indian village, watch ancient indian rituals and have the chance to by indian crafts. Return to Tropical Hotel by 5 pm.

TOUR #5:

ALIGATOR SHINING TOUR (4 HOURS LONG, US$ 110)

Number of participants: minimum of 6 persons.

Nightly cruise tour with all the mistery of one night on the Amazon jungle, navigating through the channels which connect the Negro and Amazon rivers. Specialized guides using strong flash lights will show the night fauna, made mainly of several species of alligators. You will see their temporary capture and return to their natural habitat.
